We the PeopleIf I had to choose just one book that I've writen, and kids sometimes ask, I'd choose this book. I describe it as a kind of alternative service. The 65 poems are all written in imagined first person voices of Americans. They are voices of the very first Americans, who came over the top of the world to escape from the glaciers that were covering Asia, to a young teen at the edge of this century, wondering about what a world would be like where the internet could connect everyone.
For the Earth Day Essay Contest JEANETTE NEFF Aurora, Colorado, April 22, 1970 Someday there may be no "away" to throw stuff anymore, so we better all start thinking and we better know the score. We better ask some questions about the things we choose: Do we want a certain something to use and use and use? When it's broken, small, or empty, will that be that something's end? Can we fix it? Can we fill it? Can we give it to a friend? Can we make that something something else or will that something be just a use-it-one-time-toss-it-out, a trash-it--1-2-3?
